Despite its name, Space Drum isn’t about sci-fi or traditional drums. The sounds originate from an instrument that just happens to look like a UFO—at least the kind burned into our collective imagination as standard-issue alien transport.

In reality, it is a large tongue drum with rich sustain and a distinct, folk-inspired tone. The Space Drum library is able to create a convincing rendition of the original by offering a diverse set of playing styles, ranging from standard hits, to taps, to palm muted tones, all in its original G pygmy tuning.

Playing in its native G Pygmy tuning delivers the most authentic sound, but Space Drum also includes a versatile alternative: 'Rock 'n Roll' mode. This chromatic mode removes tuning constraints and extends the instrument’s range to a full four octaves, making it easy to integrate into any musical context.
